John Volken Academy Seattle is an award-winning residential treatment center in Washington State, recognized with the Dalai Lama Humanitarian Award for its life-changing work in addiction recovery. The men-only program serves adults ages 19–44 with substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions through a highly structured, 24-month therapeutic community model. Set in a peaceful, nature-rich environment near Seattle with views of Mount Rainier, the academy provides a safe and supportive space where students can focus fully on healing, personal growth, and long-term sobriety.
The program integrates evidence-based therapy, vocational training, and life-skills development to support lifelong recovery. Students participate in individual and group counseling, leadership-building activities, and hands-on job training through academy-operated businesses, helping them develop real-world employment skills. Treatment follows a four-phase recovery model focused on addressing root causes of addiction, restoring brain health, building a new lifestyle, and preparing for successful reintegration. Comprehensive aftercare, relapse prevention, mentorship, and optional transitional housing ensure graduates leave with the tools, confidence, and support needed to maintain lasting recovery.
