In 2010, 25,428 people were admitted for drug and alcohol treatment in Kentucky, out of which 66.9% were male, and 33.1% were female. Among those admitted, 28.2% were treated for opioid abuse, 18.8% alcohol, and 16.7% marijuana.
In Kentucky, the number of deaths related to drug overdoses was four times the national average from 2001 to 2014, with the highest number in 2016. Some of the commonly abused drugs in Kentucky are prescription opioid drugs, cocaine, alcohol, heroin, meth, and marijuana.
