Liberation Programs' Families in Recovery Program (FIRP) serves up to 10 mothers at a time in the Norwalk area seeking recovery from addiction. FIRP allows clients to bring up to 2 children, age 10 or below. In cases where clients can't bring their children, FIRP serves them with reunification classes and resources. They work with the local Department of Children and Families. While clients are at appointments or in therapy, FIRP facilitates childcare for the kids.
Liberation Programs aims to meet clients where they are using a harm reduction approach. Their program includes 1-on-1, group, and family counseling plus medication (Buprenorphine, Naltrexone, or Suboxone) to reduce cravings and help clients focus on treatment. Even if clients aren't ready to stop using drugs entirely, Liberation helps them avoid overdoses and carries Narcan (naloxone) to administer in case of an overdose.
In addition to treatment, Liberation runs preventative services to help adults and youth in the community avoid addiction or mental health issues in the future. They have recovery coaches on staff, including coaches with special experience serving clients who are pregnant or parenting. For families who need housing during their recovery, Liberation provides 18 units. Their mobile outreach vans offer treatment referrals, prescriptions for medication, and educational resources. Their team is also happy to go to community events and schools to talk about substance use.
