This exciting new breakthrough in crushing rock has a number of very interesting applications. The most obvious application, which Tetra has been working on for many years, is drilling oil and gas wells. Tetra has shown, in laboratory tests, that the drilling rate in hard rock is about 10 times faster than conventional drills. Instead of drilling 6 ft./h in hard sandstone the RePED drill can drill 60-100 feet/hr. This makes a substantial difference in cost of accessing hard rock oil and gas resources. The same hard rock drilling technology that can provide the oil and gas industry a major advantage can also provide the geothermal industry with a substantial drilling advantage, significantly decreasing the cost of drilling.
