Substance abuse can happen anywhere, and even though San Clemente is a charming town it can also be found there.
If you're in San Clemente, you can almost guarantee that it will be a sunny day. Founded officially in 1920 by Ole Hanson, San Clemente was relatively isolated from the outside world and the urban development it would have brought. That helped the town hold on to its small town charm, even to this day.
Beaches, hiking trails, and other ways to appreciate its natural beauty abound here. It is now a modern minded town, but its residents have nonetheless hung on to its original, historical roots, thus keeping its 20's charm alive.

Even though San Clemente is a great place to visit and live, there is a sub culture of substance abuse that can be found here. Whether it is an abuse of alcohol, illicit drugs, or prescription drugs acquired legally, substance abuse is a huge issue that could lead to an overdose death or a life of addiction.
Substance abusers and drug addicts begin prioritizing the drug over everything else. They become secretive and flighty, no longer able to keep up with their everyday responsibilities. If a drug addict has reached this point, unfortunately, they are probably pretty far along in their addiction journey.
No matter how far gone someone seemingly is, however, treatment can always help them start to get better. The key thing is for the person to want to get better – and to do that, they need to be able to admit that they have a problem worth fixing. There may be some long term physical or psychological effects from the drug, but treatment will always assist in getting off the drug nonetheless.
A person has to design (with a professional) the treatment program that works best for them. This might include therapy, counseling, medical treatment, or perhaps an inpatient clinic or center for substance abusers.
