"Our story begins with drug addiction, which led to our life becoming unmanageable. Despite having everything—a house, car, kids, money, and jobs—in 2017, DCFS received allegations of neglect and drug use against us. I tested positive for meth while my husband, unaware of my addiction, tested negative. This revelation devastated him, and our children were removed from our care. The experience plunged me into a deeper depression and more drug use, resulting in us losing everything…MELA became our second family, guiding us through good and bad times. Their support and our determination paid off, and on October 12, 2021, our children were returned to our care. We thank God for this second chance and for bringing MELA into our lives."
