An alcohol is any beverage that intoxicates and that is harmful to the health when consumed in excess.
Alcoholism is the intense and persistent desire to drink alcoholic beverages to excess. Alcoholics consume alcohols even when they are aware of the dangers to their health. Prolonged and excessive intake of alcoholic drinks leads to serious addictions; and addicts suffer severe withdrawal symptoms when they quit the habit without adequate treatment.
Habitual intoxication come with some of the following health complications: memory lapses, slurred speech, nausea, vomiting, impaired judgment and liver disease in the user. Unborn children could also develop terrible defects when pregnant mothers consume alcohol in excess. Some users have the habit of mixing alcohol with drugs. This practice could be very fatal since it could lead to seizures and death.
